In 1948, the minor league Milwaukee Brewers have an abysmal record, and manager Arthur Murphy is desperate to improve the team. When he sees 17 year old Mickey Tussler pithing apples into a barrel, he knows he has found a phenom that will end the teams's losing streak. However, not everyone is as hopeful. Mickey's autism has alient the boy from his surroundings, and he faces immense challenges from both the competitive world of baseball and the obstacles that are inherent to his conditions, - a disorder still not truly understood.
