We have land! Land to our left (which Captain Jones has told me over and over I must call "to port"). What does it matter what I call it? I can see it. We are in a channel that is open. Ice is to our right still but land is to our left.
Sunday, April 30, 1721
We are in a cove.. Captain Jones has declared it "more than suitable." The men are fitting out several of the fishing boats so that they may row unto the land. I do not want to go. There are too many trees and it is dark beneath them.
All of a sudden I am like Mama. Mama says she would not "willingly set foot within this dreadful place, for all the riches in the world."
Reverend Jacob's service today was one of thanksgiving. I did not know how to be thankful. I am too afraid.
